ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY

San Clemente High School follows two grading policies for athletic eligibility:

1. The Capistrano Unified School District's policy states that the student-athlete must have a minimum of a 2.0 grade point average at the end of each semester
2. The California Interscholastic Federation states that the student athlete must pass at least four classes at the end of each grading period.

ATHLETIC CLEARANCE PACKET

Student-athletes must complete the following forms within the packet prior to tryouts for all sports: (Packet must be turned into Athletic Director's Office for official clearance to participate)

1. Insurance: All student-athletes must show proof of insurance coverage to be eligible to compete.
2. Physical Examination: All student-athletes are required to get a physical examination; results are accepted for a period of one year.
3. Code of Honor: All student-athletes (and parent) are required to sign a District "Athletic Code of Honor" form for standards of behavior.
4. Informed Consent: All student-athletes (and parent) are required to sign an SCHS "Informed Consent" form for awareness of sports injury risk.

CIF-SOUTHERN SECTION

Governing Body for all high school athletics within the Southern Section boundaries (nearly 600 high schools).  The CIF-SS Blue Book is a manual that contains the Constitution and Bylaws for any student-athlete who participates in an interscholastic contest; the CIF-SS Blue Book can be downloaded @cifss.org.

CIF Transfer Eligibility (Bylaw 207): An athlete who transfers after the 9th grade from one high school to another high school.  The following are the two (2) most common situations involving transfer student-athletes:

1. Bonafide Change of Address: Entire family moves from Attendance Area of High School A to Attendance Area of High School B.
2. Transfer Prior to First Day of 10th Grade: Student can transfer from one high school to another without moving as long as it is before the first day of the third consecutive semester of attendance (typically prior to Sophomore year).

There are many other reasons for transferring schools with some resulting in unrestricted eligibility, some that result in limited eligibility, and others that may require a CIF Hardship (Bylaw 208) to gain eligibility.  Please keep in mind, any transfer that is a direct result of disciplinary action will result in a student being ineligible for athletics for a period of one year.

Important!!  All transfers must submit CIF FORM 510 (Pre-Enrollment Contact Affidavit) as well as CIF FORM 207 (Athletic Transfer Eligibility) to the CIF-SS Office for approval before determining eligibility.  These forms must be signed by all parties involved in the student/athletes transfer – Parent, Student-Athlete, former School Officials, and current School Officials.
